Protecting the Chaudière River
As we heard from Environment minister Yves-François Blanchet, about 100,000 litres of crude oil were spilled as a result of the train disaster in Lac-Mégantic. That oil has moved into the lake and into the Chaudière River that flows downstream through the Beauce towards the St. Lawrence.
Our reporter Peter Tardif went to the Chaudière River yesterday, near the town of St. Martin de Beauce. Microbiologist Françoise Auger works with Le Comité de Bassin de la Rivière Chaudière, a group that works with municipalities to manage and help keep the river clean.
The two of them waded into the river to get a look at the oil flowing by.
