Local mail out of small cities to be processed in Montreal
Technology is changing the way Canadians communicate. It's also having an impact on the country's postal service. Over the last decade, Canada Post has seen a dramatic decline in its letter/mail volume, even in traditional mail such as bills, statements and publications.
It's all part of a trend that suggests Canada Post could lose $1 billion a year by 2020. It's forcing the corporation to make changes, some of which are being rolled out in the Eastern Townships this week.
We spoke to Canada Post spokesman John Cain and Denis Lemelin, president of the Canada Union of Postal Workers.
