Small bookstore owners teaming up to fight big box and online retailers
Many Quebec writers, authors, editors and bookstore owners are headed to the National Assembly this week. They are trying to fight back against big box and online retailers. The different writers groups will be presenting arguments for and against regulating the price of books in Quebec. The proposed law would prevent retailers in Quebec from offering more than a 10 % discount for the first nine months of a book's initial run.
One of the people who will be presenting a brief at the National Assembly in favour of regulating book prices is David Homel. He is a writer, journalist, filmmaker, and translator. He is also the president of the Quebec Writers' Federation. David Homel joined us on the show this morning.
