New association in Quebec to represent foreign workers
The number of temporary foreign workers in Canada is increasing, but some are concerned about the lack of support systems in place for workers who may be in precarious situations, leading to exploitation.
That's why a Montreal organization has formed the new Temporary Foreign Workers Association (TFWA) to represent workers from across the province of Quebec, working in all kinds of fields of work. Enrique Llanes is originally from Spain and has been in Montreal since October 2012. He came to Canada with a work contract but is on a call-back list, and because of the contract, he can't look for a job elsewhere.
