Mining industry tarnishing Canada's reputation abroad
Mining companies from around the world are gathered in Montreal this week, for the 23rd World Mining Congress.
And while workshops are focusing on engineering feats and technological advancements, mining watchdogs are hoping to turn attention to Canada's corporate reputation in foreign countries.
Mining Watch Canada, a non-profit advocacy group that focuses on improving policy in the mining industry, believes it is time for the government to step in and establish stricter regulations for companies operating abroad, to ensure the protection of human rights in developing countries. We spoke with its Canada Program Coordinator, Ramsey Hart.
