Magdalen Islands' mayor unsatisfied with EI meeting in Ottawa
Opponents of changes to the employment insurance system brought their fight to Ottawa this week. They say the EI changes will force people to take lower-paying jobs farther away from home. They also say this will hurt seasonal industries and rural economies. Federal Human Resources Minister, Diane Finley argues that the changes are just clarifications of the existing rules.
Yesterday the minister sat down with her Quebec counterpart Agnès Maltais. She also met with representatives from Eastern Quebec --mayors and employment groups-- who have formed a coalition against the EI changes.
The mayor of the municipality of the Magdalen Islands, Joel Arseneau was there and spoke to Susan Campbell this morning.
