Project Runway returns tonight for its 13th season, with fashion broadcaster Tim Gunn returning to his role as mentor to the next generation of creative minds.

To mark the new season, we revisit Jian's Best of Q conversation with the Emmy Award-winning fashion personality, who shares what it was like to transition from mentor to host in his spin-off show -- Project Runway: Under the Gunn -- and how much discipline it took to relinquish the hands-on approach of his previous role.

Gunn also reflects on rising out of a darker time in his past, recalling his struggles as a closeted gay teen with a debilitating stutter, and feeling as though life was not worth living.

These days, he hopes to be a role model for young people, and calls himself "the luckiest guy in the world."
