Could the U.S. and Canada ever merge?

(Hans Deryk/Reuters)

Journalist and author Diane Francis joins Jian to discuss her recent trip to the U.S. to promote a "thought experiment" favoring a merger between the U.S., and Canada -- something the dual citizen argues is already happening culturally.

Francis also says that Canada has many existential problems that we can't solve on our own.

"Canada has a small population and the second biggest piece of real estate full of buried treasure that's been neglected and not developed," she says. "We can't develop it and we can't defend it.

"Let's be honest and realistic; we're a mid-level country, we are next to this super power, they like us, we like them; let's go as far as we feel comfortable in doing."
