In today's opening essay, Jian congratulates the Denver Post for creating the position of Marijuana Editor -- a cutting edge beat assigned to Ricardo Baca as Colorado braces itself for the legalization of recreational pot smoking at the start of the new year.

The change is sure to have quite the cultural impact, and it warrants diverse and robust coverage -- something Jian feels would be useful this side of the border, too.

"Surely, at least, this is a conversation that's long overdue."
