Never mind frosh chants
and "Blurred Lines" debates,
American prosecutor Kym Worthy is bringing attention to violence against women in a very direct way. She has made it her mission to resolve a backlog of 11,000 untested rape kits that have been gathering dust in Detroit.
Worthy, who is a rape survivor herself, tells guest host Kevin Sylvester, "There's no excuse for shoving over twenty-five years of evidence into an evidence room and ignoring it."
She adds this is not just a Detroit issue but a much wider problem. When she was looking for guidance on how to address thousands of rape kits she googled "10,000 rape kits" and found other American cities have this problem.
