The Kite Runner
author Khaled Hosseini
talks about his latest novel, And the Mountains Echoed
, a book inspired by the impossible sacrifices families face as the conflict in Afghanistan continues -- including selling or giving their children away.
In a revealing conversation, he opens up on feeling guilty about his own success, why kindness should be coupled with stamina, and why he is optimistic about Afghanistan's long-term future, even though the immediate future is cloudy.
"I do take solace in feeling that things will change in a generation," he said, pegging his hopes on the sophisticated young population in the ancient country. The original show aired in June 13, 2013
