The Toronto International Film Festival has begun in earnest, but notably missing from the crowd is a filmmaker John Greyson. For 21 days now, Greyson and his friend, medical doctor Tarek Loubani, have locked up in a Cairo jail.
The Canadians were arrested during a crackdown on protests in Egypt last month, but still don't know which charges they face or when they will be released.
As uncertainty mounts, so too does the pressure from the Free Tarek and John
campaign. Directors Atom Egoyan, Sarah Polley, and Gus Van Sant are among those calling for their release -- and TIFF organizers, too, are making efforts to draw attention to their plight.
Greyson's sister, Cecilia Greyson, and the duo's close friend Justin Podur give Jian an update on the situation.
