In the weeks since the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, the hoodie has become a symbol of the protest movement that sprang up to demand an arrest in the case. Martin was wearing a hoodie that night in Florida. There's a widespread belief that it's part of what triggered the gunman's suspicion.

Today on Q, Jian spoke to Pulitzer Prize winning fashion journalist Robin Givhan about the complicated symbolism of the hoodie. She also defends part of what Geraldo Rivera had to say when he warned parents to stop their children from wearing hoodies.
