Internationally celebrated Canadian author Michael Ondaatje sat down with Jian today to talk about his hotly anticipated new novel, The Cat's Table, already long-listed for this year's Giller Prize.
While a note in the book declares that the story is entirely fictional, there are some suspicious coincidences... The book's protagonist is named Michael, he's about Michael Ondaatje's age, he's a writer, and the story take place as he is making a journey from Sri Lanka, the place Ondaatje was born, to England, the place he made his first move to.
Jian asks the real-life Michael to explain himself.
(And he does so, with the aid of a Kinky Friedman quotation...)
