Does hockey need to take on homophobia?

The latest hockey controversy isn't about head hits, but about gay marriage. It began when New York Rangers forward Sean Avery recorded the above video supporting the New Yorkers for Marriage Equality Campaign. However, it didn't really become news until Ontario sports agent Todd Reynolds tweeted his dismay with Avery's stance, saying same sex marriage was "wrong." Then, Rogers Sportsnet anchor Damien Goddard tweeted his support for Reynold's statements and what he said was the "true meaning of marriage".

Q's Sports Culture panel took on the debate today, but what do you think? Is hockey culture homophobic? And -- given that no NHL player has ever come out as gay -- should professional hockey be taking homophobia on in a direct way?
