Jian on arts and culture in the election

leaders.JPGToday on Q, Jian kicked off the show asking: who will speak for support for arts and culture in Canada? None of the major political parties seem to have made arts and culture priorities during this federal election cycle so far. "The arts and culture sector employs as many people as the combined sectors of agriculture, forestry, fishing, mining, oil, gas and utilities," said Jian, "yet the levels of public money, industrial incentives and support, (and) tax breaks that go to culture are disproportionately low."

Have a listen to Jian's essay below and tell us your thoughts. Why haven't matters of arts and culture been addressed by the federal party leaders? Is more coverage needed? Where should arts and culture fit into platforms that address important subjects like the economy, jobs, seniors and family?
