JIAN on the Oscars: "The show was awful"

In today's opening essay, Jian reflected on last night's Academy Awards ceremony - supposedly the biggest spectacle of the year in entertainment.

Somewhere in the middle of appealing to a new generation and branding the Oscars "au courant" with two talented young actors as the hosts (James Franco and Anne Hathaway),  someone forgot about pacing, writing and performance and...entertainment.
