Jian spoke with author Hephzibah Anderson about her new book, Chastened: The Unexpected Story of My Year Without Sex.
Anderson was feeling disappointed by a string of casual hook-ups, go-nowhere relationships and dating mishaps. So she decided to seek a little clarity and peace by swearing off sex. (Yes, the year without sex was intentional.) She argues that the sexual revolution and the feminist movement seem to have failed young women -- and that for many asking for the intimacy they may want to go along with sex is now its own taboo.
What do you think? Does our concept of sexual freedom need to expand to include the right to want emotional intimacy along with the physical? Or are we already there?
