Precious enters this year's Oscar race with a total of six nominations. The film is the harrowing story of an African American teen who is ostracized, illiterate, and pregnant with her second child as a result of a rape by her father. Last week, the NAACP honoured the film with six Image Awards. Many film reviewers have embraced Precious, but there are a number of critics out there too. So today, Q convened a spirited debate between esteemed African American author Ishmael Reed and Cameron Bailey, co-director of the Toronto International Film Festival. Is the film Precious Oscar-worthy -- does it subvert or promote black stereotypes? What do you think?
