How relevant are the Ten Commandments today?

Today on Q, writer, provocateur and anti-theist Christopher Hitchens questioned what he calls the "vague pre-Christian desert morality" of the Ten Commandments, which he says, show every sign of being invented by a "Bronze Age demagogue." That divine top-ten list from the Old Testament has shaped laws, institutions and ethical beliefs for millennia - and remained the focal point of cultural and religious conflict.
