Jesse Wente Summer blockbuster season has begun. Q Screenboy Jesse Wente stakes his reputation on another controversial top ten -- best summer blockbusters of all time! Did your favourite make the list?

JESSE WENTE'S TOP TEN SUMMER BLOCKBUSTERS EVER

/ Jaws - have to give it to the original, the first summer blockbuster of the modern era, which made Steven Spielberg the biggest director in Hollywood and set the path for the next film on this list

/ Star Wars - the other summer blockbuster originator, this is the movie that Hollywood (and George Lucas) has been trying to recreate ever since - plus its the movie that changed my life, setting me up for a career of writing lists like this

/ Die Hard - the movie that redefined the action hero, it remains one of the greatest action movies ever made, and a fascinating piece of pop culture

/ Raiders of the Lost Ark - the forces of Spielberg and Lucas combine to help define the modern pop corn spectacle - too bad about the most recent film

/ The Matrix - one of the movies that pushed the summer blockbuster season into the spring - still one of the coolest looking movies of the past 20 years - just pretend they never made the other two

/ Spiderman - the movie that launched our current superhero fascination, this is a movie that wasn't possible years ago, and is still a modern benchmark for superhero action

/ Men In Black - I love this movie, for its sly blend of humour, science fiction, and remarkable special effects - if only they were all this good

/ Back to the Future - I must have seen this movie ten times when it came out, the truest sign of a summer blockbuster hit

/ Thelma and Louise - a summer hit that snuck up on people, this wonderful film is rare as a blockbuster because it features two female lead characters - its not unusual in the fact that it also has Brad Pitt

/ War Games - a personal pick from my youth, i love this movie - it perfectly captured the excitement and caution over the very early days of home computers and video games - shall we play a game?
