This Friday the new Star Trek movie arrives in theatres - the first in 7 years. Q Screenboy Jesse Wente is very excited. And he has created another list - top ten Star Trek moments EVER. Let the debates begin.
JESSE WENTE'S TOP TEN STAR TREK MOMENTS EVER
/ The Death of Spock (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan) - the most emotional moment in Trek history, Spock sacrifices himself to save the Enterprise while his best friend and Captain watches on helplessly - awesome stuff - Spock, of course, was reborn in the next movie
/ Picard becomes Locutus (TNG: The Best of Both Worlds 1&2) - the defining moment in The Next Generation series, finds Captain Picard assimilated by the Borg and threatening humanity - one of the greatest cliffhangers in tv history
/ Kirk kisses Uhura (Star Trek: Plato's Stepchildren) - the most controversial episode of the original series contained the first interracial kiss in television history - just one example of how the series broke new ground
/ Tribbles (Star Trek: The Trouble with Tribbles) - one of the most beloved original episodes features the adorable, huggable species that is a friend to everyone - except Klingons, who have declared tribbles mortal enemies of the Klingon empire - they would reappear in a later Deep Space 9 episode
/ Kirk fights Spock (Star Trek: Amok Time) - Kirk and Spock square off in a ritualistic Vulcan battle - that music is forever burned into my brain
/ Picard tortured (TNG: Chain of Command Part 2) - an indelible moment from TNG, Picard refuses to break under Cardassian torture - an intense, wonderfully acted scene, from a two part episode that still plays well today
/ Kirk lets Edith Keller die (Star Trek: The City on the Edge of Forever) - one of the best episodes from the original series uses time travel (overused in the first series) and finds Kirk in love with a woman during the Great Depression, who is saved by McCoy when she should have died, leading to Germany acquiring the Atom bomb first - to prevent this Kirk must let her die - fantastic science fiction, plus it has Joan Collins
/ Khhhaaaaaannnnnnn!!!! (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan) - a second appearance from the same Trek movie is a sign that it's the best one, and features William Shatner at both his best and worst - here he yells the immortal name that is still parodied today
/ Good Kirk versus Evil Kirk (Star Trek: The Enemy Within) - one of my personal favorites, because nothing beats William Shatner acting with William Shatner - there's no such things as too much Shatner!
/ Data sleeps with Tasha Yar (TNG: The Naked Now) - I'm still shocked by this episode (a re-make from the first season of the original series) which features an intimate affair between the ship's security officer and its resident android - second episode of the TNG series, but not among its best aside from the Data-Tasha hook-up
