Is speculative fiction the last great fiction of ideas?

Mystery, horror, fantasy novels: all popular with readers, but hardly taken seriously when it comes to most book critics or literary prize juries. And speculative fiction - commonly known as sci-fi - is perhaps the least respected of all. But writer Clive Thompson argued on the show today that science fiction is in fact the last great fiction of ideas. What do you think?
