JESSE WENTE'S TOP TEN MOST DIFFICULT VIDEO GAMES EVER

Jesse Wente You know, back in the days of the arcade, it could take dozens of hours to play your way through a single game... if you were actually able to ever reach the end. But things have changed. These days most games are designed to be played to completion. And according to Q's screenboy Jesse Wente, that means games have gone soft. Here is Jesse's list of the toughest video games ever.

/ Pac-Man - the original arcade version is still the ultimate gaming conquest - there's literally no end to this game, which robbed me of enough quarters as a kid that I'm still paying off Funzone

/ Donkey Kong - if you've seen the doc "King of Kong," than you know this game is one of the all-time challenges in gaming, rarely defeated - (btw, if you haven't seen the film finish reading this and then go find it, then Google it afterwards to read the fallout)

/ Space Invaders - perhaps my first gaming obsession, I still can't get enough of it and it remains as challenging a game as you'll find

/ Mike Tyson's Punchout - oh you beat Glass Joe and Bald Bull, but Iron Mike himself? - one punch was usually enough to end it for the pre-face-tattoo Tyson

/ R-Type - still haunts me at night - yet I'm still playing the modern versions, like R-Type Command, which I guess explains the night terrors

/ Top Gun - this nearly ending my love of gaming - remember the refueling stage? - how about landing? - crashed every time

/ Ninja Gaiden (series) - this hack 'n slash classic is legendary for its cruelty and gigantic bosses

/ Defender - this game punishes you - if you don't rescue everyone, it's almost impossible to actually win, but boy did I try - many little pixelated people perished in the attempts

/ The Legend of Zelda - oh boy, Zelda has always been tough, especially in its early days, but the series remains one of the best modern challenges around

/ N+ - I loved this recent ninja-themed game, largely because it takes such skill to get past even a level that it makes the time spent feel worth it - plus my D-pad dexterity greatly improved
