A week ago today, nearly 3 million Muslims flooded into the holy city of Mecca on an annual pilgrimage of the faithful. The Kaaba in Mecca is Islam's holiest site, but plans have been announced for a huge new structure to be built around the Haram mosque. Controversially, two Western architects are working on the design. Should Westerners be allowed to work on the redesign of Mecca? Should a non-Muslim architect be allowed an influential role in the reworking of such a holy site?
