Is home-design culture commercializing our personal style in the name of "good taste"?

When it comes to high style in the home, we LOVE to watch. There's something just so satisfying about seeing a home go from gaudy to gorgeous, in under an hour.

A whole industry has sprung up to push you to greater heights of home decor, but in the face of the home-design onslaught Q dares to ask the question:

Are our homes actually becoming more stylish - or just more homogenous?

And, isn't "good" taste just a matter of personal preference? (Hey, I like my giant vinyl couch...)

Design defences, and confessions, welcome.
