About the Show
Every episode of Promised Land brings a story of an escape that starts anywhere in the world, but always ends in Canada. In this 10-part series, host Natasha Fatah presents stories of dangerous getaways as described by the immigrants and refugees who endured them to get here.
Promised Land airs Monday evenings at 7:30 p.m. (8:00 NT) and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. (10:00 NT).
And you can listen on Sirius Channel 137: Mondays at 6:30 p.m. and 10:20 p.m. ET and Fridays at 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. ET.
About the Host
Host and producer Natasha Fatah is a journalist, documentary-producer and columnist. She was born in Karachi, Pakistan but her family was forced to flee the military dictatorship. They spent years living in Saudi Arabia and The Netherlands, until finally settling happily in Canada.
Natasha is a producer for CBC Radio's Current Affairs Show As It Happens. Natasha also writes a regular current affairs opinion column for CBC.ca called "Minority Report" which can be found at http://www.cbc.ca/news/viewpoint/
She has worked as a radio and television reporter and has produced many radio documentaries about a range of topics including the mistreatment of Ahmadiyyas in Indonesia, Hindu-Muslim relations in Mumbai after the terrorist attack on the Taj Hotel, India's booming plastic surgery industry, Pakistan's battle against religious extremism, and a personal look at her sister Nazia's autism, and many others.
About the Team
Producer Mark Ulster is an award-winning radio producer who spent thirteen years at As It Happens on CBC Radio One, doing every job from studio director to chase producer to head writer to senior producer. He's currently a producer with the Sunday Edition.
Associate producer Dagna Pielaszkiewicz was born in Lublin, Poland, during the country's last years behind the iron curtain; her family fled to Athens, Greece on a vacation from which they never came back, finally settling in Toronto in 1990.
Dagna has worked as a producer in radio and television, with a strong interest in new media. Recently she has been managing water educational programming for the United Nations Association in Canada.
