the fifth estate celebrates its 40th anniversary of award-winning investigative journalism this season with hosts Bob McKeown, Gillian Findlay and Mark Kelley. Last year, the fifth estate won domestic and international awards and acclaim for such stories as Made in Bangladesh, which probed the role of Canadian companies in the garment factory collapse that killed more than 1000 people, and The Sextortion of Amanda Todd, which revealed what really happened to the B.C. teenager who was blackmailed online and pushed to suicide.

Next season, in The Birthday Boy, the fifth estate exposes a stunning miscarriage of justice in which witnesses were tricked and manipulated by police into telling lies that sent their friend to jail, accused of a murder he did not commit. In Finding Emma, viewers follow a mother's quest for one of the thousands of adult Canadians who go missing every year. Everyone assumed her daughter had committed suicide--but what if Emma is still alive? And the fifth estate continues to chase down viewer tips that fuelled their wildly successful show, Your Tips, Our Stories. the fifth estate also teams up with the PBS show Frontline on a major international investigation.

For four decades, the fifth estate has continued its tradition of combining in-depth investigations into stories that matter to Canadians with the drama and production values of exciting TV storytelling. The program has also been a leader in cross-platform programming, becoming one of the most popular CBC program websites for videos and extra features available online.

For the second year in a row, the fifth estate was named Canada's Best News Information Series at the Canadian Screen Awards.
