CBC Program Guide

Northwords is a cross-platform documentary project that takes urban Canadian writers to some of the world's most extreme environments, to join the conversation about the north. Hosted by award-winning journalist and radio personality Shelagh Rogers, the project follows a group of acclaimed writers as they travel to one of Canada's awe-inspiring northern national parks to explore, have adventures and create new works that add to the continuing story of the north. Through interviews, emotional moments, gripping action on the land, amazing wildlife encounters and insightful conversations between the writers and Rogers, the project explores the idea of north, and shows what happens when the country's best writers tackle its most overwhelmingly beautiful places. Taking advantage of opportunities presented by transmedia integration, the journey continues via an interactive experience that invites users to read the story in the writers' own words, and learn more about their processes and what inspires them. Together, these related media will create a larger story web, allowing the audience to truly immerse themselves in the sights, sounds and stories of the north.

Featuring Joseph Boyden, Sarah Leavitt, Rabindranth Maharaj, Noah Richler & Alissa York.
