Suzanne King

Suzanne King is featured in the following program(s):

Suzanne King is the national cultural reporter for CBC National Radio News and The Arts Report.

Before joining Ottawa's Parliamentary Bureau in 1998, Suzanne was a National Reporter for the award-winning programs The Arts Tonight and The Arts Report.

For 18 years, Suzanne worked covering federal cultural policy on Parliament Hill. During this time, she covered five culture ministers; Canada's national arts institutions, including the CRTC, the Canada Council for the Arts and Telefilm Canada; cultural industries including broadcasting, film and publishing; and cultural aspects of the international trade agreements.

In addition to her political coverage, Suzanne interviews, writes and produces documentaries and profiles of Canada's artists, dancers, musicians, filmmakers and writers for CBC News and Current Affairs programs.

Suzanne was born in Brockville, Ontario and graduated in Design from Ryerson in Toronto. Continued studies in the arts and a serendipitous encounter with student radio at Carleton University in Ottawa opened the doors to her career in the arts at CBC.

She has also taken on roles as a host and producer and has worked in television as well as radio.

Suzanne has been nominated for and won awards for political coverage of the arts, including her profile of pianist Angela Hewitt.

Most recently, in 2001, she was selected as the only Canadian journalist by the German Academic Exchange Service to study social, labour and cultural issues at universities in Germany and Poland.

Suzanne is the first recipient of the Canadian Museums Association's Award for Outstanding Achievement in Journalism, which recognizes excellence and dedication to advancing museums and the arts in Canada.
