Sheryl MacKay

Sheryl MacKay

Sheryl MacKay is featured in the following program(s):

For the past four years, hundreds of thousands of B.C. early birds have been tuning into B.C.s #1 weekend radio show North By Northwest, to hear what host Sheryl MacKay has brought together to entertain and inform them. Sheryl single-handedly runs things behind the scenes at North By Northwest - she has taken on the roles of host, producer, technician and web keeper. Also when time permits, the office organizer and CD re-shelver. It's a lot of work but, according to her, the meetings are very short and never disagreeable.

Her association with CBC Radio in BC began in the early eighties on a number of current affairs programs. She headed east to the CBC in Prince Edward Island where she again built on her strengths as a journalist, researcher and host and even did a stint as co-anchor of a TV supper hour show. Her warm personality continues to bring the best stories about people and their passions for life and the arts.

Sheryl has received several accolades and awards including an Award of Merit presented by the Prince Edward Island Museum and Heritage Foundation. She holds a BA from Simon Fraser University and a Journalism Diploma. These days, Sheryl is working on a long time dream of hers and is studying for a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology. Inspired by an interview of Elizabeth Kubler Ross by Vicki Gabereau on CBC Radio, Sheryl became a hospice volunteer and recently had the opportunity to return to school part-time to work on a degree in the field.

In addition to her work with CBC, Sheryl has pursued her interest in the arts. She has been a member of several local boards and organizations. Sheryl has made numerous public appearances as lecturer, host, performer and even an auctioneer for charities and non-profit events.

Away from work Sheryl's life is filled with three children, a husband and a dog named Rufus (a Cairn terrier who runs the world) and her on going attempts to find (better late than never) the instrument she was meant to play. She's tried the cello, fiddle, concertina and now is ready to start group harp lessons.
