Before joining the CBC, Czernkovich studied meteorology at McGill University at the Master's level; his research specialty was short-term thunderstorm forecasting, known as nowcasting. He also holds a Bachelor's degree in Atmospheric Science from York University.
Czernkovich not only forecasts the weather, he checks it out first hand as a commercial pilot. Although he's flown a variety of planes-he particularly loves flying the Twin Otter. He is the aviation specialist at the CBC News: Weather Centre, and frequently is in the news describing the impact of weather on aviation incidents.
Czernkovich has also addressed Transport Canada as an aviation weather specialist. His presentations have included topics such as flying in icing conditions and summer severe weather, and his briefing on aircraft icing was distributed to Air Canada Jazz pilots as a training document.
Czernkovich enjoys bringing his expertise to CBC viewers in the GTA and delivering the latest forecasts and breaking weather stories.
