Kathleen Petty

Kathleen Petty

After more than two decades in regional and network television, veteran journalist Kathleen Petty took on a new challenge, moving into radio in 2006.

Petty wanted to continue covering both local and national news and so took over the hosting of both Ottawa Morning and The House on CBC Radio One. Both shows have earned record audiences since.

Petty began her journalism career in 1986, hosting a talk show and anchoring the 6 o'clock news in Medicine Hat, Alta. Soon after, she was reporting, hosting a morning show, and producing a prime-time current affairs program in Regina. All that multi-tasking was perfect preparation for what followed. She was one of a small group of people to launch Canada's first all news network, CBC Newsworld in 1989.

During her 17 years at CBC Newsworld, Petty produced, created and hosted several programs and news specials, covering some of the biggest news stories of the past two decades-from the Oka crisis, the Meech Lake Accord and the Gulf War to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, followed by the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Naturally, it is the Canadian experience that is most satisfying to cover, especially the personal stories of ordinary and extraordinary Canadians, and Petty has had countless opportunities to share those with people across Canada.

Petty was born and educated in Calgary, Alta.
