John Hancock is a seasoned CBC Radio national sports host and reporter with extensive Olympics experience. The 2004 games in Athens, Greece, marked Hancock's 9th Olympic assignment.

Born in Galt, Ontario, Hancock is a graduate of the broadcast program at Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ontario.

Hancock's first Olympic reports were pre-Games features for the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid. In 1984 he covered the Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, and in 1988 he covered both the Calgary Winter Games and the Summer Games in Seoul, South Korea. In 1996 Hancock co-hosted CBC Radio's coverage of the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, and was a reporter and host at the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano and the 2000 Olympic Summer Games in Sydney. He was also a reporter for CBC Radio's overage of the Canada Games and Pan-Am Games in 1999.

As a CBC reporter, Hancock has worked on a number of fascinating stories including the Ben Johnson fiasco at the Seoul Olympics. One of his most memorable took place while covering the Montreal Canadiens' training camp. It was in Moscow in 1989, just before the fall of Communism and Hancock found himself filing as many socio-political news stories as he did hockey results.

Hancock has won numerous awards for his work, including a national Canadian University "Sportscaster of the Year" award and two provincial ones. In 2002, he was honoured for his work in sports broadcasting by Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax.

Hancock is CBC Radio's national sports host for Halifax, Sydney, Saint John, Moncton, Fredericton, Charlottetown, St. John's, Gander, Grand Falls, Corner Brook, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Calgary.

John is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia where he lives with his wife Roberta. John and Roberta have one daughter, Lauren, who is a national radio producer for the weekend jazz show out of Calgary called Tonic. She graduated from Ryerson University in the radio television arts program.
