Raised in Calgary, Davidson returned to the CBC during the 1998 –1999 campaign, when he stepped back in to the broadcast booth as an analyst, offering his hockey wisdom during games. It was a return to the HNIC booth where he had previously worked from 1984-86.

Davidson worked for five seasons with FOX-Sports and also served as lead analyst for CBS-Sports at the 1992 Olympic Games in Albertville, France, and the 1994 Games in Lillehammer, Norway. In 1998 and 2002 “JD” worked for NBC at the Winter Olympics in Nagano and Salt Lake City. He was an analyst for 15 seasons on the Madison Square Gardens Network and for the past four years he has been an analyst for ABC Sports.

Davidson is known for his ability to dissect the game and explain its intricacies in an easy-to-understand style. His 10-year playing career was cut short in 1983 due to various injuries. He compiled a 123-124 win-loss record and led the New York Rangers to the Stanley Cup finals in 1979.

In recent years, viewers of CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada have enjoyed his insight as a regular contributor on the Satellite Hotstove.

He lives in upstate New York, with his wife and two kids.
