Gloria Macarenko co-hosts the award-winning newscast CBC News: Vancouver at 5, 5:30 and 6 pm along with Tony Parsons. She has twice been nominated for the Gemini Awards in the category of "Best News Anchor" in Canada.
Gloria has been with CBC for more than 20 years. Her most recent honours have included a Jack Webster Award for "Best News Reporting" and a Leo award for "Best Anchor in a News Program" with former co-host Ian Hanomansing.
Gloria has contributed to other programs and has served as guest anchor on The National, for which she notably covered the disastrous crash of Swissair Flight 111 for a marathon of five hours. This broadcast received both the Radio and Television Directors' Association and Gemini award for "Best Live News Coverage". She also hosted the RTNDA award-winning "News Day in BC" student journalism special.
Gloria's relationship with the Vancouver community goes beyond the newsroom. Most notably, Gloria volunteers and hosts for organizations such as Arts Umbrella, Dr. Peter Centre, RCH Hospital Foundation and Westcoast LEAF. Further illustrating her impact on Vancouver's television audience, in 2005 she was named one of TV Week's 10 Most Beautiful People in B.C.
