Before retiring, Fred Langan reported on significant financial and economic news and trends for CBC News.
In the fall of 1997, Langan joined the Newsworld Business team as anchor of Newsworld Business News. In addition, he provided regular business updates for Newsworld's daily programs.
From 1982 to 1987, Langan worked at The Journal as a reporter/producer, working on economic projects including: a look at the early CNN and Ted Turner and a documentary on the Commodity Exchanges in Chicago.
In 1981, he produced, wrote and hosted one-hour economic documentaries for the CBC on subjects such as Canada's railway policy, Ontario's economic dominance of the country and the Hemlo gold rush.
During his time at the CBC in the early 1970s, Langan was the local business reporter in Montreal, where he initiated the weekly segment The Business Desk. In 1975, he was part of a special CBC investigative team covering the Wage and Price Control board in Ottawa and other parts of the country. In 1976 he became the CBC's national business reporter, working out of Toronto.
