Cory Edel is CBC News Edmonton’s weekend meteorologist who also can be found behind the scenes in the control room during the week.
Cory began his television career after receiving a TV broadcasting diploma from NAIT in 1999. His first broadcasting job was as a director for Global, but at the age of 25 decided to take a year off to travel Europe, the Middle East, and northern Africa.
When he returned, he was still addicted to TV but craved a change, so he went back school to earn a Specialization in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Alberta.
Upon graduation, Cory came to work first for CBC Edmonton doing local and national weather before moving on to work for Shaw Television in Calgary. While Cory enjoyed his time in Calgary, he was excited to return to Edmonton to once again work for CBC News Edmonton as the weekend meteorologist.
“I hold such a special place in my heart for Edmonton and the Capital Region. Spending most of my life here I enjoy the Alberta summers the most, from the proximity of lakes and the mountains to the interesting summer weather.”
When you don’t see Cory on the news, you’ll probably find him enjoying the cool little pockets our city has to offer, running in the valley, or enjoying time with his friends and family.
