Andrew Nichols is anchor of CBC News Today: Weekend Edition.
Andrew Nichols joined CBC after a three-year stint as a Global news and entertainment reporter. Andrew moved to the anchor desk with CBC Country Canada in 2001. Since May 2004, he has been a regular anchor on a variety of CBC Newsworld programs.
Andrew's first big breaking news story at CBC Newsworld was in 2004 when protesters and riot police clashed during U.S. President George Bush's visit to Ottawa. Months later, he covered the death of Pope John Paul II.
More recently on Easter Sunday, Andrew broke the news to the country of the deaths of six Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan. It was the biggest single day loss of life in combat of Canadian soldiers since the Korean War.
This summer Andrew was on the air for close to five hours anchoring special live coverage of the highly anticipated verdict in the trial of Conrad Black.
Andrew holds a Joint Honours Degree in Political Science and History from McGill University and a Master of Journalism from Carleton University in Ottawa. He's a bilingual native of Montreal, where he was born and raised.
