A preview from Max Paris, Senior Producer of The House on CBC Radio One:
So... India. You know, the country that put the 'I' in BRIC... the empire-eclipsing acronym for the rapidly developing economies of the world. (The other three are Brazil, Russia, China.) Well, right after our Prime Minister finishes up at the APEC Summit in Singapore, he's off to the Subcontinent to talk trade. What does he have to say? What can he expect to hear? Peter Sutherland, Canada's former High Commissioner to India, joins us from Mumbai to answer those questions.
Meanwhile, back on the home front, Immigration Minister Jason Kenney is changing the locks on the door to Canada. Note to potential Canadian citizens: if you want the key, you're gonna have to read "Discover Canada: The Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship." Honour killers and other barbarians need not apply.
And the loonie is getting so high that a lot of Canadian industries are losing their lunch from altitude sickness. But Ken Boessenkool, a Research Fellow at the University of Calgary's School of Public Policy, says SUCK IT UP! A strong currency is a good thing. It means the rest of the world likes what we're doing. Jayson Myers, President and CEO of Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, ain't so sure his members can get used to the height that fast... but they're working on it. The two of them are on together with Kathleen. It should make for a thought-provoking chat.
Last, but nowhere near least, Louise Elliott unlocks the bomb-proof hatch on Canadian politicians' private lives. She tells us what's on the other side and why, for the most part, Canada's press corps aren't too interested in publishing that picture. [Louise has also prepared a blog about what she learned.]
Hope you enjoy it.
Cheers!
MAX
