Peter Phillips is a specialist in public policy and science at the University of Saskatchewan. He argues that it is not the role of scientists employed by the government to speak to the public, but rather to advise politicians confidentially about their findings. Politicians will make decisions about public policy based on a variety of factors including, but not dictated by, scientific evidence.
