The tragedy in Lac Megantic has had a far-reaching effect on the railroad industry, starting with the fact that the accident effectively bankrupted Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway. Some of the company's assets are being auctioned off to help pay creditors and victims. That includes a stretch of track that appears to be of interest to the Irving group. For more on this, i spoke to Chop Hardenbergh, the editor of a weekly trade-newsletter called Atlantic Northeast Rails and Ports. I spoke with him via Skype. He was in Freeport Maine.
