Remembering Brubeck

As It Happens

Dave Brubeck, will be best remembered for being an innovator who -- despite his penchant for unorthodox time signatures -- became one of the most popular jazz musicians of the '50s and '60s. "Take Five" -- in 5/4 -- was the first jazz single to sell one million copies. The world-reknowned jazz musician, died yesterday in Norwalk, Connecticut, just one day short of his ninety-second birthday. Last March, Carol spoke with Mr.Brubeck about the passing of his former drummer Joe Morello. You'll hear an excerpt of that conversation, here, as well as our conversation with The Dave Brubeck Quartet's present sax player, Bobby Militello as he remembers his bandleader and idol.
