The 1954 Parker-Hulme matricide was the famous murder behind Peter Jackson’s film Heavenly Creatures. Two teenage girls – Pauline Parker and Juliet Hulme murdered Pauline’s mother. RNZ producer Ruth Beran has managed to gain access to both recordings and documents not previously available. She speaks with participants in the murder and the investigation. The incredible changes to societal attitudes are clearly apparent, and it has say a lot about Christchurch and New Zealand both now and then.
