On Monday, the United Nations will kick off a month of marathon negotiations on an international Arms Trade Treaty. The agreement would regulate the import, export and transfer of all conventional weapons. If it was in place now, it would be illegal for Russia to sell arms to Syria. There's still a long way to go in getting consensus on the treaty, some nations oppose it outright while others are calling for the ammunition or certain weapons to be excluded. In October, we reported how Canada made the controversial proposal to exclude hunting and shooting weapons from the treaty. Last week the Radio, Television and Digital News Association recognized Alison Crawford's documentary with a national award for in-depth reporting.
