In India, you see them everwhere. Bidis, the cigarette of the poor, made by the poor. And made cheap. But there are expensive consequences, according to journalist Murali Krishnan. The industry is largely unregulated and undertaxes, some say thanks to cozy government connections. And tobacco-related illness claims nearly a million lives every year in India.
