In the Field

In part one of this episode.President Bill Clinton came up with the phrase "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." It was his way of stickhandling through the thorny issue of the rights of gay men and women serving in the American military. Thanks to President Obama gay and lesbian soldiers will be able to serve openly. But the legacy of Don't Ask Don't Tell, and the official discrimination that preceded it, won't disappear with the stroke of a pen. We bring you the stories of three former soldiers and their experiences of being gay in the U.S. military.
