A mentor and role model in life...and in death.

Information Morning - Fredericton

There are turning points in life and people who make a difference...they inspire others as role models and mentors. Boyd Merrill followed in the footsteps of his mentor and joined the RCMP in 1988. His role model was Constable Joseph Perry Brophy. Brophy and his partner Corporal Barry Lidstone were shot and killed during a 1978 incident in Hoyt, a domestic dispute that claimed 4 lives. Merrill was inspired to join the RCMP and when he became a police officer, he says the way Constable Brophy died saved his life more than once. Myfanwy Davies has his story.
