He was a young refugee. She was a widowed mother. Their unlikely friendship has come full circle.

Placide Rubabaza fled war-torn Burundi in 1994 at the age of 19. He landed terrified and alone at the Peace Bridge in Fort Erie. Teacher, mother and refugee activist Patricia Anzovino took him under her wing. Today, Placide is a doctor and Patricia has dementia. And their connection is as strong as ever. Alisa Siegel's documentary "Just to Have Had You," was recently honoured by the New York Radio Festivals; it first aired in February 2018.
