Calgary zookeeper Colleen Baird remembers the 2013 Calgary flood

The Homestretch

It's hard to believe, but next week marks 5-years since the historic Calgary flood. Water inundated Canmore, Bowness, Sunnyside, downtown Calgary and many other communities along the Bow and Elbow rivers. For those of us who lived through it: it was a nightmare come-to-life. For zookeeper Colleen Baird and the rest of the staff at the Calgary Zoo, it was a dangerous and unprecedented situation for their animals. A new documentary from Discovery Channel details the critical hours, leading up to and after the Bow river peaked, as the zoo struggled to save their animals. 'Alberta Floods: Rogue Earth' premiers this Sunday at 7 p.m. Colleen Baird joined host Terri Campbell on the line from the Calgary Zoo.
